BINGHAMTON, NY –The Binghamton Devils are proud to announce that Tariq Hammond has been named the team’s winner of the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award for his outstanding contribution to the Binghamton Community during the 2018-19 season.
Hammond, 25, is always willing to help out in the community and volunteers for programs whenever he can. The defenseman can be often found participating in the reading programs that the Devils offer for local elementary school children. In his dedication to hockey, he is always one of the last players to leave the ice and the same can be said for his attendance at Devils events.
This season with the Devils, Hammond has participated in countless community service projects, including the Binghamton Devils Reading Program, fan-related events, the Toys for Tots Spaghetti Dinner, and Binghamton Devils Booster Club meetings. His contribution has been tremendous and the feedback on his presence is astounding.
Hammond is now one of 31 finalists for the AHL’s 2018-19 Yannick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the Yanick Dupre Memorial Award will be announced by the American Hockey League at a later date.
