BINGHAMTON, NY – The New Jersey Devils announced today that defenseman Michael Kapla accepted his one-year qualifying offer. The announcement was made by Devils’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.
Kapla, 23, posted six goals and 15 assists for 21 points and 22 penalty minutes in 63 games during his first full professional season with the Devils. He was initially signed March 28, 2017 after spending the previous four seasons, 2013-17, with University of Massachusetts-Lowell (HE). Through 152 collegiate games, the left-shooting defenseman has recorded 17 goals and 75 assists for 92 points while accumulating 100 penalty minutes. He appeared in five games with New Jersey at the end of the 2016-17 season.
The 6-foot-0, 201-pound, Eau Claire, WI native was voted the Binghamton Devils Rookie of the Year during the 2017-18 season.
The Devils will open up the 2018-19 season at home on Saturday, October 6 at 7:05 p.m.
