BINGHAMTON – Brandon Baddock had three assists as the Binghamton Devils won their third in a row tonight, 5-3, over the visiting Syracuse Crunch in front of 3,674 fans at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Tuesday night.

The Crunch struck early following a cross-checking call that landed Brandon Baddock in the penalty box for the Devils. Syracuse capitalized on the power play just 3:24 into the first when Cory Conacher blasted one past Binghamton goaltender Louis Domingue from just above the circles. The goal was Conacher’s 11th of the season and was assisted by Cameron Gaunce and Gemel Smith for the 1-0 Crunch lead.

Michael McLeod evened up the score after some physical play with Mathieu Joesph. After the two exchanged some shots at one another, McLeod knocked Joseph to the ice and tapped in a Brandon Baddock shot. McLeod’s finishing touch from the side of the net gave him his fifth goal of the season with Baddock and Bastian picking up the assists on the play at 13:03.

Defenseman Dakota Mermis sent home his third of the season and gave the Devils a 2-1 lead late in the first frame on the power play. Mermis’ shot appeared to ping off the cross bar, but, after further review hit the inside bar to give the Devils the one-goal lead. Assists were given to Nate Schnarr and Fabian Zetterlund with 2:12 left and Binghamton took the lead into intermission.

The Devils added to their lead 7:30 into the second stanza as Julian Melchiori picked up his third of the season. Martin deflected Melchiori’s initial shot, but, the defenseman went around the Syracuse defense and lifted the loose puck just under the cross bar for the 3-1 Binghamton lead. Baddock and Nick Merkley registered the assists on the play. The Devils took the two-goal advantage into the second intermission and a 26-16 shot lead.

Binghamton was not finished yet as they scored their fourth goal of the game just over two minutes into the final frame. Ben Street tipped a Jeremy Groleau shot and beat Martin to advance the Devils to a 4-1 lead. Merkley and Groleau picked up assists on Street’s 12th of the season.

The Crunch brought it back within two when Daniel Walcott’s pass connected with Smith out in front of the net. Smith whipped it past Domingue 8:42 into the third period to cut the Devils lead to 4-2. Alexander Volkov landed the second assist on the play.

Syracuse picked up their second power-play goal of the night as Mathieu Joseph’s diving shot dribbled past Domingue. The Crunch goal came as Cal Foote’s initial shot from out in front was deflected and Joseph buried the rebound with 9:31 left in the third. Smith picked up his third point of the night with the additional assist and the Crunch pulled within one, 4-3.

In the end, Bastian fired in an empty-net goal for the 5-3 win. Domingue stopped 26 of 29 in the win and Martin put aside 28 of 32.
