BINGHAMTON – Mackenzie Blackwood, Egor Sharangovich, and Marian Studenic, are representing their respective countries at the 2019 World Championships.
Blackwood, 22, will represent Canada after a breakout season in the Devils organization in 2018-2019. He was selected for the 2019 American Hockey League All-Star Classic and made his National Hockey League debut. The Thunder Bay, ON. native recorded a .902 save percentage and 2.95 goals-against average in 20 games with Binghamton. In 23 games with the New Jersey Devils, Blackwood had a 2.61 goals-against average, a .918 save percentage, ten wins, and back-to-back shutouts. He made his NHL debut on December 20 in Columbus and stopped 38 shots.
In his first AHL season, Sharangovich had two points in his first two games of the year, both wins over Toronto and Hartford. Sharangovich, who represented Belarus and collected a medal this past week in a separate division, had 17 points (nine goals, eight assists) in 68 games. Sharangovich was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round (141st overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft last June.
Studenic will play for Slovakia after completing his rookie season with Binghamton, The 20-year-old forward recorded 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) in 64 games. Studenic was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round (143rd overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
The 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship (Blackwood, Yakovlev, and Studenic) will be held in Slovakia from May 10 to May 26 and the 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Division I, Group A will be held April 29 to May 5 in Kazakhstan.
